imageA Country Pub in the Centre of Town

The Rockstone is not your typical city pub.
Max Greenwood has created a cosy paradise right in the centre of Southampton, to transport you from the hustle and bustle of the city to a vibrant pub full of conversation, hearty food, fine local ales and premium spirits.

Welcome to

The Rockstone

We have plenty of seating, two gardens and a beautiful red brick fireplace,
so you can eat and relax in a comfortable atmosphere.

Heading into our mighty third year, we at The Rockstone have continued to build on our stellar reputation for high quality home cooked food, which where possible is locally sourced, from such fine establishments as Uptons of Bassett and Biglands Bakery, St. Marys. Our chefs have strived to create a menu that encompasses the ethos and atmosphere of the pub; interesting but familiar, adventurous yet comforting. With this in mind, this winter you will see more of our famous burgers, grills and some lovely twists on traditional British winter fare, but also some new dishes influenced by cuisines as varied as Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and The Americas.

Complementing our food range is our ever-increasing drinks offering. We offer a huge range of ales and ciders from over 30 local breweries, including Batch 9, JJ's Cider, Flack Manor, Itchen Valley, Irving, Stonehenge Ales, Bowman, Vibrant Forest brewery and many more. As well as draught, cider and an extensive wine list, we have a truly astonishing array of spirits including 30 gins, 40 whiskeys, 40 bourbons, 40 rums and 20 vodkas from around the world. This is one of the largest collections of spirits in Southampton (if not the whole South) so it may seem daunting; like an epic wall of booze. Luckily our intrepid bar staff have conquered that wall, so if you need any advice or recommendations just ask. Please don't be shy, because you just might find your new favourite tipple!

Our two beer gardens offer sun, shade and refreshment all week, especially during The Rockstone’s special events. With the aid of our rustic tin drum BBQ and outdoor bar, the pub holds regular ale and cider festivals, and special themed events such as our Blues & Bourbon Festival, Rocktoberfest and our Pirate Rumfest, with live music and themed food specials.

We also strive to be a cornerstone of the local community, which means supporting our community as a business. We are delighted to support local charities such as The Hampshire & Isle Of Wight Air Ambulance, Headway Southampton, The Epilepsy Society and Naomi House, and we run events and parties to raise money for other charities, such as our annual Anti-Cancer Weekend fundraiser. With its roots firmly in the local community, the Rockstone is a thriving hub for those who live nearby as well as people who have travelled from far and wide to experience what we have to offer.

The pub’s crest above the door reads in Latin; “Be Excellent to One Another”. This stands as a sentiment that epitomises the whole ethos behind our community venture; a country pub in the city, which offers unique, high quality food and drink in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. We hope that you enjoy this place as much as we enjoy working here!

It’s been a great first three years, here’s to the next three! Cheers!
